Characterization of signals by the ridges of their wavelet transforms
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a couple of new algorithmic procedures for the detection of ridges in the modulus of the (continuous) wavelet transform of one-dimensional signals. These detection procedures are shown to be robust to additive white noise. We also derive and test a new reconstruction procedure. The latter uses only information from the restriction of the wavelet transform to a sample of points from the ridge. This provides with a very efficient way to code the information contained in the signal. Partially supported by ONR N00014-91-1010 Supported by NSF IBN 9405146

Background and purpose: Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is one of the retinal degeneration diseases affecting the eye signals. Electroretinogram (ERG) is a signal that plays an important role in diagnosis and treatment of RP. This signal includes useful information that cannot be revealed just in time domain. We aimed to investigate the effect of RP on time, frequency, and time-frequency parameters o...
متن کاملSubsea Free Span Pipeline Damage Detection Based on Wavelet Transform under Environmental Load
During their service life, marine pipelines continually accumulate damage as a result of the action of various environmental forces. Clearly, the development of robust techniques for early damage detection is very important to avoid the possible occurrence of a disastrous structural failure. Most of vibration-based damage detection methods require the modal properties that are obtained from mea...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Hidden Markov Model for Detection of P300 in EEG Signals
Introduction: Evoked potentials arisen by stimulating the brain can be utilized as a communication tool between humans and machines. Most brain-computer interface (BCI) systems use the P300 component, which is an evoked potential. In this paper, we evaluate the use of the hidden Markov model (HMM) for detection of P300. Materials and Methods: The wavelet transforms, wavelet-enhanced indepen...
متن کاملIdentiication of Chirps with Continuous Wavelet Transform
Chirps are signals (or sums of signals) that may be characterized by a local (i.e. time-dependent) amplitude and a local frequency. Time-frequency representations such as wavelet representations are well adapted to the characterization problem of such chirps. Ridges in the modulus of the transform determine regions in the transform domain with a high concentration of energy, and are regarded as...
متن کاملClassical Wavelet Transforms over Finite Fields
This article introduces a systematic study for computational aspects of classical wavelet transforms over finite fields using tools from computational harmonic analysis and also theoretical linear algebra. We present a concrete formulation for the Frobenius norm of the classical wavelet transforms over finite fields. It is shown that each vector defined over a finite field can be represented as...
